THIRD NEW ROSS PIANO FESTIVAL COMING UP...

15th September 2008

The New Ross Piano Festival is rapidly es tablishing itself as a major event in the Irish musical calendar. It takes place during the last weekend of September each year in the historic setting of St. Mary's Church in New Ross, Co. Wexford. The programme for this third edition of the Festival is the most ambitious yet with three very intense days of music-making planned.  Performing artists include the internationally renowned Brazilian pianist Cristina Ortiz, the much-loved Irish pianist-composer Philip Martin, Artistic Director of the Festival Finghin Collins, Irish pianist Peter Tuite and French pianist Nicolas Stavy, making his Irish début.  Joining this stellar group of pianists for chamber music will be clarinettist Emma Johnson, cellist Marc Coppey and violinist Corinne Chapelle.

New features this year include a lecture by charismatic broadcaster and music critic Ian Fox and a late-night performance of Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time on Saturday November 27th. The programme also includes music by Latin American composers Villa-Lobos, Vianna and Gottschalk as well as works by Haydn, Beethoven, Schumann, Chopin, Liszt, Debussy and many more. There will also be a special opportunity for the younger pianists of Ireland's South-East to perform on the Steinway concert grand piano on Thursday September 26th.

The Festival is sponsored by the Arts Council, Failte Ireland, New Ross Town Council, Wexford County Council and RTE Lyric FM and supported by many other companies and Friends. Full details of the programme and booking available at the Festival's website:
