FINGHIN APPOINTED ASSOCIATE ARTIST WITH RTE NSO
9th September 2009
Finghin is honoured to be appointed to the newly-created position of Associate Artist with the RTE National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland. The position will last for three seasons, starting in the 2010/11 season.
The new role of Associate Artist will allow Finghin Collins to work with the RTÉ NSO in a richly collaborative way. In a minimum of four concerts a year he will explore particular areas of the repertoire, including the complete Beethoven cycle of works for piano and orchestra. Finghin will also perform in large-scale chamber ensembles drawn from the RTÉ NSO.
RTÉ's Executive Director of Performing Groups, Séamus Crimmins, commented:
'Finghin Collins is one of the most outstanding Irish musicians of his generation and I am delighted that he has agreed to become the first Associate Artist with the RTÉ NSO. In this role Finghin will rehearse and perform a sequence of co-ordinated engagements with the RTÉ NSO across a broad range of repertoire. Finghin is a deeply committed artist whose career goes from strength to strength and I feel confident that his titled role with the RTÉ NSO will be valued by all our musicians and the public.'
Finghin Collins commented:
'I am delighted and honoured to have been appointed as the first ever Associate Artist with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra. It has been my great pleasure to perform with the RTÉ NSO almost every season for the past 16 years; I look forward to a deepening of this relationship and an exciting collaboration that will be rewarding for all involved.'
Also announced was Finnish conductor Hannu Lintu as Principal Guest Conductor Designate.
