CLAVES RECORDS RELEASE NEW SCHUMANN RECORDINGS

19 March 2009

On March 18th 2009 Finghin's new double album of Schumann's piano music - The Complete Piano Music, Volume 3 - was officially launched by the Swiss Ambassador to Ireland, His Excellency Beat Loeliger, at a reception in the Swiss Embassy in Dublin. These new CDs come almost three years after the release of Finghin's recording of Volume 1 in the same series, which received rave reviews in the international press, including "Editor's Choice" in Gramophone Magazine in the UK and 5 Diapasons in Diapason Magazine in France.  In 2007 Claves Records released Volume 2 in the series, performed by Swiss pianist Cédric Pescia; this album was also very warmly received internationally.

The new release features many of Schumann's best-loved works, including the Abegg Variations and Symphonic Etudes, and some less well-known compositions, such as the Intermezzi Op. 4 and the Nachtstücke Op. 23.  The complete contents are as follows:

CD 1
Abegg Variations Op. 1
Six Intermezzi Op. 4
Etudes Symphoniques Op. 13

CD 2
Bunte Blätter Op. 99
Nachtstücke Op. 23
Faschingsschwank aus Wien Op. 26

Finghin Collins

The CDs were recorded in October and November 2008 in the Siemens-Villa in Berlin using a Steinway grand piano. Once again Johannes and Ines Kammann were the producers, together with Johann Günther.

You can listen to two sample tracks from the new album free of charge from the audio page on this site;  all the music can be downloaded from Amazon

It is envisaged that Cédric Pescia will record a further double album in 2009 and the series will be completed with two double albums recorded by Swiss pianist Francesco Piemontesi. The complete series will therefore comprise six double albums performed by three pianists.
