FINGHIN IS APPOINTED MUSICIAN-IN-RESIDENCE IN SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL

24th November 2004

South Dublin County Council has appointed Finghin as Musician in Residence for the calendar year 2005. This is a new position which the Arts Office of the Council advertised last Autumn. South Dublin County, created in 1994, is an area of some 222 square kilometres and stretches from the River Liffey to the Dublin Mountains, incorporating Lucan, Clondalkin, Palmerstown, Rathfarnham and Saggart, with its headquarters at County Hall in Tallaght. It lies approximately 10 miles south west of Dublin City Centre and has a population of around 234,000 people.

Finghin has set out the following general aspirations for his 12-month-long tenure at South Dublin:

  • Direct a series of concerts: It is hoped that various buildings around the County can be put to use as attractive concert venues. Research is currently being undertaken and plans are being made; details will be announced in due course. It is the intention of the Council that admission to all events should be free.
  • Implement a series of masterclasses: Finghin will travel to many of the music academies and schools in South Dublin and hold masterclasses for students who will be selected by the institutions.
  • Organise education workshops in schools: It is envisaged that a large number of schools in the County will be visited by Finghin and/or other musicians during the year. Workshops will be wide-ranging and interactive, with maximum impact on a wide community.

Finghin looks forward to a stimulating and interesting residency. Details of all public events, and news about Finghin's activties at South Dublin will be posted here on the website as the year progresses.

Finghin's residency at South Dublin is supported by the Arts Council.
