AIRS AND MELODIES AT WHITECHURCH KICK OFF THIS SATURDAY
2nd October 2008
Following the great success of the last two years' concert series at Whitechurch Church of Ireland in Rathfarnham, Dublin, Finghin has devised a fresh Saturday afternoon series this year, entitled "Airs & Melodies". Presented by South Dublin County Council and supported by the Arts Council, the series commences this Saturday, October 4th, with a varied programme performed by Capella Choir. Due to the injury of director Vincent Whelan, the concert will be directed from the piano by Celine Kelly.
On Saturday October 11th Finghin will be joined at the piano by Principal Flautist with the RTE National Symphony Orchestra, Catriona Ryan, for a performance of a Sonata by Mozart (written at age 8!!) and Three Romances by Schumann. Finghin will also perform Schumann's monumental Etudes Symphoniques for solo piano. October 18th will see Welsh soprano Buddug Verona James performing a programme of Spanish songs with Dearbhla Collins at the piano, while the following week Russian pianist Elisaveta Blumina will perform Beethoven, Prokofiev and Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition".
The final programme will feature the Blackmore Ensemble from the UK performing highly contrasting piano quartets by Mozart and Herbert Howells. Concerts commence at 3.00pm each Saturday with a short public chat, giving the audience a chance to get to know the artists and find out something about the music. The Church is located in a beautiful setting and has a perfect acoustic. Tickets are just €5.00 and can be purchased at the door.
Thanks to South Dublin County Council, where Finghin is Musician-in-Residence, and the Arts Council, as well as to Whitechurch Parish.
